Big Day of Giving Provides Big Opportunities for Midtown’s Parks

Each year, Big Day of Giving (BDOG) unites the Sacramento region for a full day of generosity and this year, Midtown Parks is thrilled to be a part of it once again on Thursday, May 7.

Midtown Parks, the 501(c)(3) arm of Midtown Association, aims to increase health and community engagement by investing in Midtown’s parks and public spaces. The organization supports and activates Fremont Park, Marshall Park, Muir Park, Sutter’s Fort, Truitt Bark Park, Winn Park, and Washington Park by bringing meaningful programming and improvements to the heart of Sacramento.

This year for BDOG, we are recognizing contributions that are made directly to Kaiser Permanente’s Fremont Park Bloom, an interactive art installation that will feature 6–9-foot illuminated poppy sculptures inspired by California’s state flower for 40+ days at Fremont Park starting on May 9, 2026.  A highly visible example of Midtown Parks’ work in action, Fremont Park Bloom has the following tiered giving donation opportunities:

  • $25+: Entry to win one of five VIP picnic experiences for four during Fremont Park Bloom’s Wednesday Night Picnic series (May 13 – June 10) 
  • $50+: Personalized recognition displayed in flowerpots within Fremont Park Bloom 
  • $250+: Premium recognition featured on Adirondack chair within the park

Midtown is proud to be home to many inspiring nonprofits doing important work across our region. If you’re feeling extra generous this Big Day of Giving, consider supporting:

Sacramento LGBT Community Center, founded in 1978, has grown from a volunteer-led effort into one of Northern California’s largest LGBTQ+ nonprofits. The Center provides vital programs and services that promote health, wellness, economic justice, and a sense of belonging for the LGBTQ+ community. With a Platinum Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, the organization remains a trusted and impactful resource in the region.

Capital Stage Theatre Company is a professional nonprofit theatre company in Sacramento known for producing thought-provoking and transformative performances. Since its founding in 2005, Capital Stage has presented seven mainstage productions annually at its Midtown venue, along with concerts, special events, and educational programs. Recognized as one of the region’s most respected arts organizations, Capital Stage also offers internships, apprenticeships, and community partnerships that support arts education and professional development.

WEAVE Inc., incorporated in 1978, is Sacramento’s primary provider of crisis intervention services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking. The organization offers survivor-centered, trauma-informed support, including a 24/7 helpline, emergency and long-term housing, legal assistance, and counseling. WEAVE is committed to culturally responsive care and actively integrates Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) into all programs. Through partnerships and education initiatives, WEAVE works to prevent violence and build a safer, more informed community.

Lavender Library, Archives, and Cultural Exchange (LLACE), established in Sacramento in 1998, is a lending library and archive dedicated to LGBTQI literature, media, and history. Open to the public, it serves as a cultural hub, offering a safe, inclusive space for browsing and community events. As a sober and low-cost alternative for connection, LLACE continues to uplift queer voices, preserve collective histories, and proudly house banned books, all while standing firm against rising anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation.

RedRover has been working since 1987 to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals. Through programs like RedRover Relief, which offers financial aid for veterinary care and domestic violence escapes; RedRover Responders, which deploys volunteers during disasters and supports community-based animal care; and RedRover Readers, which teaches empathy through stories in classrooms, RedRover creates a compassionate network dedicated to helping animals and the people who love them.

Broadway Sacramento is California’s largest non-profit musical theatre producing organization. Since the inception of Broadway At Music Circus in 1951 under an open-air, circus-style big top, Broadway Sacramento has grown to become the most successful nonprofit performing arts organization in Northern California. Between Broadway At Music Circus and Broadway On Tour, Broadway Sacramento entertains over 250,000 patrons every year.
