Sacramento Premiere
Juicy is a queer, Southern college kid, already grappling with some serious questions of identity, when the ghost of his father shows up in their backyard, demanding that Juicy avenge his murder. It feels like a familiar story to Juicy, well-versed in Hamlet’s woes. What’s different is Juicy himself, a sensitive and self-aware young Black man trying to break the cycles of trauma and violence in service of his own liberation. From an uproarious family barbecue emerges a compelling examination of love and loss, pain and joy.

Presented by ARTHOUSE on R Gallery & Studios at ARTHOUSE on R Gallery & Studios, SacramentoARTHOUSE on R eagerly unveils the art exhibition “The Mapped Experience: Line, Layer, and Stillness” at ARTHOUSE ON R Gallery on historic R Street in Sacramento. The opening reception, including an opportunity to meet the artist, is Saturday, April 11th from 5PM-8PM.
“The Mapped Experience: Line, Layer, and Stillness” presents a series of works that bridge printmaking, painting, and collage through a shared language of structure and restraint.
Grids appear as quiet frameworks built from layered ink, watercolor, and paper, revealing subtle shifts of tone and structure.
Each piece emphasizes process which show the accumulation of line and the construction of surface. The process creates compositions that feel both architectural and meditative. Monochromatic palettes and translucent materials invite close looking, turning repetition and variation into the study of rhythm, stillness, and spatial depth.

Rooted in repetition and form, her compositions reflect a meditative response to physical and psychological environments. Working primarily with drawing, printmaking, and mixed media, she preserves the artists hand in every mark, inviting viewers into a layered process of navigation and reflection, leaving each print a unique state.
Originally from Sacramento, Chanel hold a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied at Central Saint Martins in London. After graduation, she worked in Los Angelos at Josephine Press before a yearlong post graduate residency at The Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw Poland for interdisciplinary Printmaking provided by the EU SPINAKER Program. The Music and Lives of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen
“Two singer-songwriters sit on the edge of a cliff…”
With these words, we are drawn into the world of Both Sides Now, a theatrical concert that explores the music and lives of long-time friends and one-time lovers, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
Created by, and starring Robbie Schaefer and Danielle Wertz, the cabaret-style performance traverses decades alongside songs such as A Case of You, Hallelujah, Big Yellow Taxi, Suzanne, and many more.
Both Sides Now is at once a piece of the 60’s and 70’s, and of right now -- offering us a story about the messiness of being human, of lives persistently lived at the edge of growth, and of finding the courage to turn toward one another, again and again.

[more+]What if music could bend reality? What if wonder had a sound?
In this groundbreaking performance, Vox Musica invites you into a world where choral artistry and illusion become one. IMAGINE: Where Music Meets Magic pairs the power of the voices of Vox music with the spellbinding artistry of famed magician and illusionist Douglas McCay — The Charismatic Conjuror.
This is not a concert with magic between the songs. This is music and magic woven together, each elevating the other.
To celebrate our 20th anniversary, Vox has commissioned world premiere choral works specifically composed to accompany magic—a first of its kind. These premieres, written by long-time Vox collaborator John Muehleisen and Composer-in-Residence Sarah Wald, blur the lines between what is heard and what is seen, what is real and what is imagined.
Sound will appear and disappear. Voices will shimmer like an illusion. Moments will make you question your senses. For twenty years, Vox Musica has imagined choral music differently. Now, we invite you to IMAGINE with us—to wonder, to dream, and to believe in the impossible.

It’s difficult to find your own way when your father is Benjamin Franklin: the greatest scientific mind in the world, inventor of the lightning rod and the urinary catheter and the glass harmonica and bifocal glasses and, in his spare time, the United States of America. Stunningly powerful vocal harmony...
Windborne sets a new bar for folk harmony singing today”
— Brian O’Donovan, GBH Boston
“The most exciting vocal group in a generation,” Windborne’s captivating show draws on the singers’ deep roots in traditions of vocal harmony, while the absolute uniqueness of their artistic approach brings old songs into the present. Known for the innovation of their arrangements, their harmonies are bold and anything but predictable.
With a 20-year background studying polyphonic music around the world, Lauren Breunig, Jeremy Carter-Gordon, Lynn Rowan, and Will Rowan share a vibrant energy onstage with a blending of voices that can only come from decades of friendship alongside dedicated practice. The ensemble shifts effortlessly between drastically different styles of music, drawing their audience along on a journey that spans continents and centuries, illuminating and expanding on the profound power and variation of the human voice. The singers educate as they entertain, sharing stories about their songs and explaining the context and characteristics of the styles in which they sing.
BBC Traveling Folk describes Windborne as “subverting expectations and redefining the genre [of vocal music]...just absolutely phenomenal!” Audiences and critics lavish praise upon the singers not only for their technical mastery, but for the passion, engagement, and connection with each other and the audience that imbues each performance with a rare power.
But there’s another, crucial dimension to Windborne that guides and roots their artistry. They are adherents to folk music’s longtime alliance with social activism, labor and civil rights, and other movements that champion the oppressed, the poor, and the disenfranchised. Their 2017 project, Song on the Times, is a collection of songs of social struggle from the past 400 years, sung for the struggles of today. Bursting with lyrics that, while penned decades or centuries ago, still ring true in modern times, Windborne’s dynamic harmonies breathe new life into these songs. The group was unexpectedly propelled into the limelight when a video of them singing Song of the Lower Classes, (originally from the 1840s in England) outside Trump Tower went viral in 2017, prompting their shift into touring full time.

Presented by ARTHOUSE on R Gallery & Studios at ARTHOUSE on R Gallery & Studios, SacramentoARTHOUSE on R proudly presents “Palimpsest” featuring abstract mixed media paintings created by innovative artist Taner Paşamehmetoğlu. On view from May 8 through June 8, 2026, the exhibition will be featured in the ARTHOUSE Gallery, located in Sacramento’s historic and creative R Street Corridor. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 5–8 PM, where visitors are invited to meet the artist.
Taner Paşamehmetoğlu is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores consumerism, conservation, and his own cultural hybridity, often approaching heavy subject matter with humor. In 2024, Paşamehmetoğlu completed an artist residency with the City of Sacramento’s Office of Climate Action and Sustainability, culminating in a collaborative community mural now part of the city’s Art in Public Places collection and on view at the Joe Mims, Jr. Hagginwood Community Center. His work has been exhibited throughout California and Utah, and his painting “The American Dream” has been used in curriculum at the University of California, Berkeley.

Each piece emphasizes process which show the accumulation of line and the construction of surface. The process creates compositions that feel both architectural and meditative. Monochromatic palettes and translucent materials invite close looking, turning repetition and variation into the study of rhythm, stillness, and spatial depth.
Chanel is a geometric abstract artist and printmaker whose works explores the intersection of organic and structured space.
She went on to live and work internationally, including time inn Prague and Australia. While based in Sydney, she created works at the Willoughby Arts Centre and served as secretary of the North Sidney Printmakers Association.

William Franklin has always struggled to be his own man. It’s difficult to find your own way when your father is Benjamin Franklin: the greatest scientific mind in the world, inventor of the lightning rod and the urinary catheter and the glass harmonica and bifocal glasses and, in his spare time, the United States of America. This hilarious new comedy explores this father-son dynamic through the decades, from that pivotal experiment with a singular kite, to the birth of a country.
