[more+]This winter, ARTHOUSE on R proudly presents “Memories and the Spirit,” a powerful exhibition celebrating reflection, connection, and the beauty of the human experience. On view from January 9 through February 10, 2026, the exhibition will be featured in the ARTHOUSE Gallery, located in Sacramento’s historic and creative R Street Corridor.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 10, from 5:00–8:00 PM, where visitors are invited to meet featured artists Lauren Dunlap Muse-Fisher of Musepaints and Tracey Zavala, and experience their latest acrylic and mixed-media works in person.
Both artists, based in Sacramento, share a deep commitment to exploring the connections between art, emotion, and environment. Drawing from their backgrounds in art, design, and mental health, their work reflects compassion, healing, and the power of creative storytelling.
Lauren Dunlap Muse-Fisher is a painter, muralist, and designer whose career path has intertwined art and service. A former mental health therapist, Lauren worked extensively with youth and under-resourced communities before returning to painting full-time five years ago. Her colorful, vibrant landscapes honor memory, transformation, and the passage of time, expressing both love and gratitude for community and nature.
Tracey Zavala is a multidisciplinary artist, muralist, designer, and art therapist whose work centers on community engagement, environmental stewardship, and the beauty of human connection. In this exhibit, her 3D ReContext Art invites viewers to pause and reflect. Using humble egg cartons—containers once holding life—Zavala transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Through meticulous craftsmanship and vibrant bursts of color, her sculptures balance playfulness with quiet contemplation. This thoughtful transformation honors what was, celebrates what is, and reminds us that even the overlooked or discarded can embody profound beauty.
In addition to the featured exhibition, ARTHOUSE resident artists will open their studios to the public during Second Saturday, January 10, from 5:00–8:00 PM, offering visitors an inside look at Sacramento’s thriving creative community.

Presented by Harlow's at Harlow's, Sacramento“PROVE YOU’RE NOT A ROBOT” (2025/MoonJune Records) is the sixth LP by Brooklyn based Alex Skolnick Trio (AST).
The album’s title has multiple meanings. On the one hand, it reflects the effort to hold onto our collective humanity in an era of increasing reliance on technology. Secondly, it represents the notion that the process of direct human interaction – particularly music that captures inspired improvisations and compositions, such as those heard on this LP – cannot be replaced with AI (which, as of this writing, is the latest and most disruptive development in tech). Additionally, the title refers to our time of unprecedented political polarization coupled by mass addiction to social media and people who exhibit robot-like behavior. Finally, it is a phrase that should be all too familiar to anyone who’s ever forgotten their online password, a situation humorously captured in the video for the title track (directed by Frankie Fulleda and featuring a cameo by the album’s photographer, Lamb of God vocalist D. Randall Blythe).
Beginning in the early 2000’s, AST has become known for catapulting the jazz guitar trio format into new and interesting territory. With an unconventionally wide fluidity of diverse styles (tango, calypso, Western swing, electronica, Prince-inspired funk, to name just a few), the trio gained notoriety for it’s quirky but respectful arrangements of songs previously unmined by improvisers, including by the likes of Aerosmith, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss.
Conceived as a sharp three-piece ensemble uniquely inspired by the musical wanderings of Alex Skolnick, world-renowned lead guitarist and founding member of Testament, one of the most influential metal/thrash bands of all time. Yet those unaware of Testament are shocked by his backstory when hearing AST – or Alex’s work with PAKT featuring Percy Jones (Brand X/Brian Eno), Stuart Hamm (Steve Vai/Joe Satriani) – as his guitar work defies the odds of most with guitarists with similarly metallic associations. He also has the profound distinction of being one of the more successful breakout individual students of uber-guitar-hero Joe Satriani. Along with Charlie Hunter, Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) and Larry Lalonde (Primus).
Since the debut, AST had had an entire Jazz notes column in Billboard, garnered 4 ½ stars by Downbeat, reviewed by Jazziz, The Village Voice and has charted on the JazzWeek radio charts. Apple Music frequently features the group in its Spectrum playlist, with notable other jazz crossover artists such as Snarky Puppy, Mike Stern and Marcus Miller. Most recently the Trio enjoyed its status amongst the greats as an NPR Jazz Daily Pick feature. A perfect description comes in the form of a review by Downbeat journalist Bill Milkowski (well known for his bio on Jaco Pastorious Jaco): “Skolnick runs the guitaristic gamut from lush chord melodies to Wes Montgomery-style octaves to screaming Sonny Sharrock-esque skronking” (Jan 2017).

[more+]The Sacramento Blues Society & K-ZAP present Kyle Rowland’s Rowland & Tumblin’ “Not Holding Back!” Record Release “Blues Party!”
Kyle Rowland is Not Holding Back!
January 2026 is launching in a big way for Kyle Rowland, Sacramento’s not-so-secret-now powerful young blues star. His debut album, Not Holding Back!, on the highly regarded Little Village label, was digitally released late last year, with the CD and vinyl available now in January. Produced at Greaseland Studios by Rick Estin and Kid Andersen, eight confident originals bolster his meaningful choices in these fifteen songs. With contributions from some of the heaviest of modern blues stars with whom Kyle has learned from and worked with since he was a teen, this is a perfect rite of passage.
$25-GA , $22-SBS + ticketing fees
The legendary Nightcat Rick Estrin writes” I first met Kyle Rowland, when he was 10 years old and his father brought him to my house for a harmonica lesson. Even way back then, his enormous sound and the utter ferocity of his attack were startling. Twenty plus years and countless gigs later, the raw abandon remains while his skills, instrumentally, vocally, and as a songwriter, now match his huge natural talent.”
Kyle's tough band, Rowland and Tumblin’, will bring the joy and emotion they are all feeling together now. Justin MacCarthy on fierce guitar, Mike Phillips on soulful bass, and young dynamic drummer Myles Silveira understand how important the deep roots of the Chicago and Texas blues tradition center their versatility. Watching audience heads turn as an exuberant Kyle leads his band, snaking in funk, soul, country blues and rhythm and blues is world class! Expect some proud musical mentors in audience and on stage this night.
The album has already grabbed raves from blues writers worldwide, from Paris to Alabama:
“Listening to it, we are won over by the precision, freshness and sincerity of this young musician. A vibrant and flawless first record, which already imposes the name of Kyle Rowland as one of the new faces of contemporary blues to be reckoned with. Jim Pugh's label has no equal in making us discover young and excellent musicians. A great success this session! It should satisfy the most demanding! – Jean-Luc Vabres, Chroniques
“A kick-the-doors-down production out of Greaseland puts Kyle Rowland on good footing for what should be an uptick in national regard for his large-toned California harp work and fine tenor voice on Not Holding Back. -Talkin' the Blues with Microwave Dave (WLRH FM / WJAB FM, Huntsville AL)

[more+]Join us for an immersive tribute to one of the most iconic recordings in jazz history: John Coltrane’s My Favorite Things — the best-selling album of Coltrane’s career and a landmark in the evolution of modern jazz.
Released in 1961, My Favorite Things marked a transformative moment for the classic Coltrane Quartet, featuring McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, and Steve Davis. This period saw Coltrane moving boldly into modal improvisation, expanding harmonic possibilities, and exploring the hypnotic, swirling soprano saxophone sound that became one of his signatures. The quartet was in the midst of finding its unique voice — powerful, searching, and deeply spiritual — laying the groundwork for the groundbreaking music that would follow in the years ahead.
This special concert will reimagine the album’s timeless material — from the mesmerizing, modal take on the title track to the quartet’s spacious, exploratory approach to standards. Expect a night of high-energy interplay, deep grooves, and inspired improvisation honoring one of jazz’s most influential eras.
A must-hear event for Coltrane fans, jazz lovers, and anyone who wants to experience the magic of this music live.

[more+]AJ Lee & Blue Summit are an award-winning, energetic, charming, and technically jaw-dropping band quickly rising on the national roots music scene. Based in Santa Cruz, California, the group met as teenagers, picking and jamming together as kids at local bluegrass festivals until one day, they decided they would be a band.
Currently made up of AJ Lee on mandolin, fiddler Jan Purat, and guitarists Scott Gates and Sullivan Tuttle, the band carries that youthful, festival-parking-lot energy with them still today, but at the same time there’s a genuine ease and confidence to their music making. As they ready their third studio album, City of Glass – their first label release, out July 19th via Signature Sounds – their product feels mature and fully realized, while deep in the Blue Summit pocket.
City of Glass is a slow burn album, remarkable when considered alongside records released by their peers in recent years. Lee & Blue Summit seem unconcerned with mimicking or emulating other successful groups in their scenes. Instead, they’re most interested in discovering themselves, their own music, and sonics and textures truly their own. And, they’re most interested in doing so with their musical and Californian communities.
City of Glass, as a result, is an album that’s just as much country soul and gritty, bluesy Americana as it is rock club and festival-ready string band fare, all framed through a California folk lens while clearly primed for a much wider audience.
AJ Lee & Blue Summit are an exemplary band so unconcerned with being remembered, with being enshrined, that they have gone about making a set of songs that will surely be held onto and cherished forever. City of Glass may one day crumble, but this music will never fade away.

Their successful ‘Noches de Salón Tour’ started in September 13 and 14, 2023, with two sold out shows at the prestigious Auditorio Nacional (10,000 capacity) and it will be coming to an end with two more sold out shows, at the same Mexico City venue, September 13 and 14 of 2024.
This tour has been the most successful in their career, having included 60 dates in Mexico, 15 in the US, upcoming shows in Madrid and Barcelona plus the Vive Latino Festival in Zaragoza, Spain, and a headlining show in Colombia coming up this November.
On August 15 Enjambre releases ‘Torna Noches de Salon’, a 3 song EP that completes the Special ‘Noches de Salon’ recording (launched in September 2023) which included, in an Unplugged concept, re-versions of their most important songs in different traditional Latin American styles such as Danzon, Bolero and Chachacha, all recorded in audio and video. The vinyl version will be available early September. They are now working on new material to start releasing songs between November 2024 and January 2025 – new material will be released prior to the beginning of this tour.
Enjambre has established itself as one of the most important rock bands on the Latin American scene, accumulating millions of faithful Enjambre listeners, who have made songs like “Dulce Soledad”, “Visita”, “Manía Cardiaca”, “Somos Ajenos”, “Vida en el Espejo”, “Tercer Tipo” and “Sábado Perpetuo”, among others, hymns that have marked more than one generation. They have achieved 3 Platinum Albums and 4 Gold, and have reached the #1 spot in the Mexican Sales Charts multiple times during their 15 year career.
In their extensive touring, Enjambre sell out venues such as the Auditorio Nacional (10,000 capacity) and the Palacio de los Deportes (16,000 capacity). [more+]There are moments standing on a high ledge where wild space beckons. In that moment, instinct stirs: “What if I just jumped?” It’s been described as “the call of the void,” an experience somehow more primal than even feeling or urge. On her new album, Precipice (due July 25th via Loma Vista), Indigo De Souza looks over the creative and spiritual cliff and just leaps. The North Carolina native is a prolific, poetic singer-songwriter who already has three albums and four EPs in just seven years, with her most recent full-length (2023’s All of This Wild End) earning rave reviews for her daring vocals and thrilling songwriting. But on her latest, De Souza hears the void calling and calls back, taking control of difficult memories and charged emotions via pop bombast and diaristic clarity, and finding a stronger self. “Life feels like always being on the edge of something without knowing what that something is,” the singer-songwriter says. “Music gives me ways to harness that feeling. Ways to push forward in new directions.”
On the album’s title track, De Souza faces down the potential darkness of change, and finds hope in surrendering: “Coming to a precipice/ Holding on for dear life/ Looking out into the world/ Everything has gone dark.” That sort of emotional daredevilry is definitively not new for De Souza. Her catalog brims with unwavering honesty and unflinchingly personal songwriting, including most recently the familial excavation on the pained and mighty All of This Will End. “I feel constantly on the precipice, of something horrible, or something beautiful–something that will change my life for better or for worse,” De Souza muses. To that end, Precipice cracks De Souza’s world open. As a new challenge, the songwriter took on blind studio sessions in Los Angeles, reveling in the expanded pool of collaborators and ability to focus on music. “I’d been wanting to work on more pop-leaning music for a while, so when I came out to LA I made sure to meet with people that could help bring that to life,” she says. “I wanted to make music that could fill your heart with euphoria while you dance along.”
Indigo De Souza has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to support The Trevor Project, and their work providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ youth. TheTrevorProject.org
