Capital Stage continues its 2017-18 season "Future Tense" with the Sacramento premiere of Luna Gale by award winning playwright, Rebecca Gilman. This 2015 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award winning play tells the story of a fight for who and what is best for the future of baby Luna. Caroline Cox has been working in the Department of Human Services for twenty-five years. She thinks troubled teenagers Peter and Karlie, the parents of newborn Luna Gale, are a typical case. But she discovers an array of unspoken motives amongst all the parties with an interest in Luna's future. With events accelerating, and Caroline uncovering more of the truth, her conclusions begin to look startlingly unconventional - even to her. Image by Charr Crail. [less-]

Please come and celebrate a show and opening reception, October 7th, 4pm-7pm, of selected paintings by Dean Moniz. "Manuscripts of Sounds and Rhythms" is a reflection of music and modern abstraction. Dean Moniz has spent a lifetime dedicated to art and music, and is remembered in Sacramento as a "gallerist" of many years ago. His work has shown throughout California and has received several awards and favorable critical reviews. This work will be a mini survey of Dean's paintings, representing about 10 year's worth of work. There are many musical influences from rock and jazz, from Jimi Hendrix to Trent Reznor, Charles Mingus to Jaco Pastorius. A few of the paintings have traveled to shows, one received a first place award, and a few are being shown for the first time. The Sacramento community may remember a time long ago when he was a partner in one gallery and sole owner of another. This is his life now. Dean Moniz is influenced by many artists of the 20th Century who created new visions of abstraction, which he has steadily studied for many years.  A longtime student of music. he has moved in and out of different styles. The diversity of music he listens to often influences his work of the moment. Musical references are often seen in the titles, while the compositions may have certain rhythms and marks, referencing notations and the sounds of the music. It’s not literal, more an impression. A splendid time is guaranteed for all! Image by Dean Moniz, For Reznor [less-]
