James Hunter is back with his Daptone debut Hold On! Produced by Daptone's own Bosco Mann (Gabriel Roth) at Penrose Recorders (Daptone West) near his home in Riverside, California, Hold On! is a perfect portrait of an artist at the top of his game. James Hunter has been on the scene for enough years to acquire plenty of feathers in his cap. Billboard charts, Grammy nominations, and Van Morrison collaborations aside, he has earned an international reputation as an R&B troubadour for his command of the microphone both onstage and in the studio.

Cynthia Linville has lived in London, New York, San Francisco, and outside of Washington DC but has returned to live in her hometown of Sacramento. She has taught in the [more+]
Cynthia Linville has lived in London, New York, San Francisco, and outside of Washington DC but has returned to live in her hometown of Sacramento. She has taught in the English Department at California State University, Sacramento since 2000. She served as Poetry Editor of Poetry Now from 2008-2010 and has served as Managing Editor of Convergence since 2008. Linville's work has appeared in many publications and several anthologies. Her two books of collected poems, The Lost Thing (2012) and Out of Reach (2014), are available from Cold River Press. Her poem "I am Fortune's Ungraceful Daughter" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2012. She invented a poetic form dubbed the Linvillanelle. Cynthia is active in the Sacramento poetry scene as a host and reader. A music aficionado with a theater background, she occasionally appears with musicians, including Victor Krummencher of Camper Van Beethoven, and with the group Poetica Erotica. [less-]

His first offering of 2016 is a live instrumental LP, The Rebellion Sessions, created in conjunction with the band Nat Turner (Aaron “Ab” Abernathy on keys, Malik Hunter on bass, and Zebulun “Z” Horton on drums). The Remarkable Artists Series engages artists in a variety of disciplines in intimate conversations meant to enrich the cultural and educational life of the Sacramento region through the exploration of a diverse array of provocative cultural, artistic, and educational perspectives represented. Spend an evening with Mike Johnston as he discusses his trajectory from touring drummer to founder of the largest online drum school in the world. Mr. Johnston is an internationally renowned educator and drum set clinician. Mike began learning drums at the age of five, studying privately with drumming legends Pete Magadini, Steve Ferrone, and Will Kennedy until the age of 21 when he and his band Simon Says received a major label record deal. Mike received a gold record for his contributions to the Varsity Blues soundtrack and has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman as well as on MTV's Fashionably Loud. Mike currently runs the world’s largest educational website for drummers; and from his facility in Folsom, California, he also offers drum camps and private lessons. In 2013 Mike's site won DRUM Magazine’s award for educational website of the year, and in 2016 Mike was awarded Educator of the Year by Modern Drummer Magazine. James Hunter is back with his Daptone debut Hold On! Produced by Daptone's own Bosco Mann (Gabriel Roth) at Penrose Recorders (Daptone West) near his home in Riverside, California, Hold On! is a perfect portrait of an artist at the top of his game. James Hunter has been on the scene for enough years to acquire plenty of feathers in his cap. Cynthia Linville has lived in London, New York, San Francisco, and outside of Washington DC but has returned to live in her hometown of Sacramento. She has taught in the English Department at California State University, Sacramento since 2000. She served as Poetry Editor of Poetry Now from 2008-2010 and has served as Managing Editor of Convergence since 2008. Linville's work has appeared in many publications and several anthologies. Her two books of collected poems, The Lost Thing (2012) and Out of Reach (2014), are available from Cold River Press. Her poem "I am Fortune's Ungraceful Daughter" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2012. She invented a poetic form dubbed the Linvillanelle. Cynthia is active in the Sacramento poetry scene as a host and reader. A music aficionado with a theater background, she occasionally appears with musicians, including Victor Krummencher of Camper Van Beethoven, and with the group Poetica Erotica. [less-]

His first offering of 2016 is a live instrumental LP, The Rebellion Sessions, created in conjunction with the band Nat Turner (Aaron “Ab” Abernathy on keys, Malik Hunter on bass, and Zebulun “Z” Horton on drums). The Remarkable Artists Series engages artists in a variety of disciplines in intimate conversations meant to enrich the cultural and educational life of the Sacramento region through the exploration of a diverse array of provocative cultural, artistic, and educational perspectives represented. Spend an evening with Mike Johnston as he discusses his trajectory from touring drummer to founder of the largest online drum school in the world. Mr. Johnston is an internationally renowned educator and drum set clinician. Mike began learning drums at the age of five, studying privately with drumming legends Pete Magadini, Steve Ferrone, and Will Kennedy until the age of 21 when he and his band Simon Says received a major label record deal. Mike received a gold record for his contributions to the Varsity Blues soundtrack and has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman as well as on MTV's Fashionably Loud. Mike currently runs the world’s largest educational website for drummers; and from his facility in Folsom, California, he also offers drum camps and private lessons. In 2013 Mike's site won DRUM Magazine’s award for educational website of the year, and in 2016 Mike was awarded Educator of the Year by Modern Drummer Magazine.
