With social distancing in mind and safety measures in place, the new fitness series is aimed at encouraging an active lifestyle and social interaction, both of which are critical to the health of a thriving community. Classes include Pilates, meditation, dance, yoga, bootcamps, and more.

Schedule for the Week of August 10:
-Thursday, August 13: Tai Chi with Embody Tai Chi from 6pm-7pm
-Friday, August 14: Meditation with Devon from 6pm-6:30pm

Week of August 17:
-Monday, August 17: Pilates in the Park with Humani Pilates from 6pm-7pm
-Wednesday, August 19: Meditation with Devon from 6pm-6:30pm
-Thursday, August 20: Tai Chi with Embody Tai Chi from 6pm-7pm

Note: The schedule is subject to change and additional classes may be added at a later date. If high temperatures result in the need for class cancellations, Eventbrite registrants will be alerted and cancellation information will be posted on Explore Midtown social media.

Midtown Parks is excited to offer Fresh Air: Fremont Park, a series of free health and wellness classes in Midtown August through October 2020. Launched last summer, Midtown Parks is non-profit 501(c)(3) arm of the organization that dovetails with the mission of the Midtown Association to create a center for culture, creativity and vibrancy in Sacramento’s urban core.

Open to all ages and fitness levels, those interested are encouraged to visit the website to review the weekly class schedule and to register. Each class is limited to 30 participants and pre-registration is required. All participants are asked to adhere to the physical distancing protocols in place that are outlined on the class registration page, per guidelines related to COVID-19 from the County of Sacramento Public Health Department.

Encaustic painting is the use of heated beeswax in which colored pigments are added to the wax, and the wax is then applied to any surface. This flexible medium can be combined with other media, such as collage, inks and photography. In this advanced workshop, Angela Casagrande will introduce students to additional techniques and their application through the use of flame, taking irons and heat guns.

This hands-on workshop will be presented at Viewpoint outside in our covered and protected breezeway.

The Midtown Mini Golf Tournament followed by the Midtown Love celebration will be your opportunity to not only enjoy a wonderful evening of fun and entertainment, but to also give back to the community that you love.

Don’t miss the opportunity to network with many of Midtown’s key influencers, business owners, and community members, highlighted by an 18-hole miniature golf tournament, each hosted at excellent Midtown locations with food, drinks, music hospitality, and themes, and include an exciting ’19th Hole’, which is a challenging putt with an opportunity to win a day-trip with 5 friends on a private plane! The post-golf entertainment at Faces includes live music, live art, dance performances, a spirited drag queen lip sync battle, lounging mermaids in the pool, and more!

Lavay and her group have toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada. They have performed at many of the top festivals, concert venues and nightclubs in the USA, and recently headlined Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City for a special New Year’s Eve show in December, 2014. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics, Lavay and her all-star 7-piece band bake up an instant recipe for dancing and good times.

Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers are internationally recognized as one of the top bands in the world performing classic American jazz, swing, blues and R&B music from the mid-twentieth century.

Lavay and her group have toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada. They have performed at many of the top festivals, concert venues and nightclubs in the USA, and recently headlined Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City for a special New Year’s Eve show in December, 2014. Whether singing her own compositions or drawing on a large repertoire of classics, Lavay and her all-star 7-piece band bake up an instant recipe for dancing and good times.
