Shorty

By Gale Hart

Description: One particularly striking piece in Hart’s collection is this sculpture titled “Shorty,” which serves as an homage to the mini Krylon cans and pocket paint cans commonly employed by street artists. This sculpture not only pays tribute to the tools of urban creativity but also embodies the spirit of street art itself—a movement characterized by its accessibility, spontaneity, and profound connection to public space. By integrating these elements into her work, Hart effectively bridges the gap between traditional fine art and contemporary street culture, creating a dialogue that resonates with both art enthusiasts and casual observers alike. Through “Shorty,” viewers are invited to reflect on the intersection of art forms while appreciating the skillful craftsmanship behind each medium he explores. About the Artist: A self-taught artist, Hart works across mediums, including hand-drawn books, monumental paintings on canvas, highly polished sculptures in stainless steel or aluminum, and sculptures of cast concrete and bronze. She is meticulous about producing masterfully crafted finished work.

Shorty is located in the lobby of Fort Sutter Hotel (1308 28th Street) and is sponsored by Fort Sutter Hotel & Visit Sacramento.
