Aquaglow

Art Description: Step into a shimmering portal above the heart of Midtown—where the ordinary melts into the extraordinary. Suspended above the street, this glowing balcony transforms into an ethereal underwater dreamscape, alive with jellyfish sculptures crafted from recycled BBQs, aluminum, and copper wire. These hauntingly beautiful creatures pulse gently with LED light, floating in a sea of shadows and soft illumination. Cutout shapes cast drifting patterns across surrounding plants and ceilings, immersing visitors in motion and mystery. Ambient lighting fills every corner, creating a layered, aquatic glow that ripples outward—catching the eye from J Street and 19th alike. Seen from the sidewalk, it feels like peeking into an otherworldly aquarium. Step closer, pause beneath the soft light of the jellyfish tentacles, and let your gaze drift upward. This installation invites quiet wonder, reflection, and a renewed sense of connection to both the manmade and natural worlds. By transforming reclaimed materials with interactive light, Aquaglow reminds us that art, like nature, can be both immersive and regenerative—an experience meant to be discovered, savored, and shared.

About the Artist: Kristen’s journey into metal art began with an unexpected spark: a psychic’s suggestion to explore metal sculpture. That intuitive nudge ignited a lifelong passion. From her very first welding class, she was hooked—drawn to the fire, the transformation, and the expressive potential of metalwork. Infused with an organic, almost primordial energy, her sculptures often echo the raw beauty of nature with the added wonder of light. Using reclaimed materials, Kristen creates pieces that are not only visually striking, but also environmentally conscious. Each sculpture is finished with vivid dyes and inks, imbuing the metal with brilliant color and personality. Her work is deeply inspired by the immersive experiences of Burning Man, where she draws on themes of light, heat, and transformation. This influence is reflected in her use of fire and LED elements—most notably in the creation of a five-foot metal lotus firepit for Siegfried and Roy’s Las Vegas estate and a recently completed 5×9-foot flaming heart sculpture now installed in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Kristen’s portfolio includes large-scale public art installations, corporate commissions, and private works showcased throughout Sacramento, the Bay Area, and beyond. Her captivating artistry and personal story have been featured on KCRA, FOX40, KXTV, and the Art Infused Life Podcast, where she shares her process and passion with wide audiences. Through her work, Kristen invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect—with the art, the environment, and the spark of creativity within themselves.

Aquaglow is located on the second-floor patio at 19J Midtown Apartments (1827 J Street) and is sponsored by Mohanna Development.
