Sacramento’s new Entertainment Zone ordinance makes it possible to enjoy an alcoholic beverage outdoors during select special events in designated areas. During these events, participating bars and restaurants can sell drinks to-go for consumption within clearly marked zone boundaries, creating a lively, open-air experience without the need for fencing or closed-off areas. The Zones operate only during permitted hours and events, with safety measures in place to ensure a fun and welcoming atmosphere while encouraging visitors to explore multiple local businesses.
As one of the first three approved Zones in Sacramento, the 20th and K Streets Entertainment Zone is located in the historic Lavender Heights district, home to some of Midtown’s most vibrant LQBTQ+ nightlife, bars, restaurants, and cultural hotspots. During approved special events, participating businesses within the zone can serve alcoholic beverages for outdoor consumption, creating a dynamic, open-air social experience.
Operated by Midtown Association in partnership with local businesses, property owners, and community partners, the Entertainment Zone is designed to attract visitors, support small businesses, and foster community connection. Programming ranges from signature events like Midtown Second Saturday, art walks, and block parties, to regular activations such as live music, markets, and games.
The 20th and K Streets Entertainment Zone builds on Sacramento’s rich cultural history, pairing arts and entertainment with thoughtful streetscape improvements to create a safe, welcoming, and pedestrian-friendly environment that keeps people enjoying Midtown longer and returning often.
