Internal Exposure

By Jessica Levine

Description: Slithering vines of steel birth a human head shining bright with internal light. Consisting of thousands of hand-cut, bent and welded pieces of steel, Internal Exposure represents the concept of a “planted seed” in the mind–germinating, and blossoming into a full-fledged idea. It correlates with the idea of the self, blossoming into a full-fledged human. This sculpture was built for Burning Man 2019 as an honorarium art project.

About the Artist: Jessica Levine is a sculptor and metal fabricator, who uses steel to “draw” in physical space, hand forming and welding each piece of metal to match the images within her mind. She attended UC Santa Cruz, where she found her love of welding, leading her down a path of building big sculptures and becoming a licensed welding contractor and business owner. Jessica has built four large scale sculptures for the Burning Man Arts festival, and her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally at events such as EDC Orlando and the Toronto Light Festival. She is the owner of Bear Metal Welding in South Lake Tahoe, CA LIC #1077544.

Internal Exposure is located in Priority Parking lot at 1720 L Street and is sponsored by the Handle District.
