Art Description: Clawfoot Creature is a whimsical piece, a forged steel lamp post that has grown onto the side of the clawfoot tub with its long steel roots. The lamppost’s neck curves over the tub like a swan’s head, casting a gentle pool of light into the tub below. I’m drawn to starting with everyday objects—things we all recognize and understand—then twisting them just enough to feel strange, poetic, or alive. The bathtub is a recurring form in my work; it holds the imprint of the body even in its emptiness. It’s intimate, still, and inward-facing. Streetlamps, in contrast, are outward-facing and public, yet they also offer pockets of solitude. Standing alone beneath one can feel unexpectedly tender. There’s something anthropomorphic about lamp posts too—the way they stand, the way their heads tilt slightly down in quiet watchfulness. That shared intimacy between two seemingly opposite objects—one private, one public—made me curious and that’s where this project began.
