In 2014, The Midtown Association in partnership with Councilmember Steve Hansen, the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce, and other stakeholder groups came together to construct Sacramento’s first rainbow crosswalk.
Nestled in Midtown's core, Lavender Heights serves as the epicenter for LGBT resources in Sacramento. See the story about the rainbow crosswalks here.
The rainbow crosswalks at 20th and K streets were designed as a celebration of the region’s LGBT community. The colorful crosswalk is similar to those in other U.S. cities, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, and West Hollywood. The crosswalks are maintained and supported by the Midtown Association, which is committed to ensuring Midtown remains a thriving center for culture, creativity, and vibrancy.
